D&D

My “Fun” May be Different than Your “Fun”

As I mentioned earlier something to the effect of “my definition of ‘fun’ is killing a thing with research,” but let me expand. Like Alison Bechdel, my first instinct is to go to the library. Books are the keepers of knowledge and in order to know a thing, one has to have books. The internet and community groups are also an incredibly valuable resource (the D&D corner of the internet I’ve combed through is listed at the bottom of this post), but books are the immediate, instinctual go-to. And for D&D, there’s no real library one can go to (don’t try researching at a book store or game shop, they’ll hate it). So really, I’m left with building my own library, ain’t it?

With that spirit, I now have some amazing D&D things coming my way, including some Kindle downloads. Please don’t think I’m a maniac spending all sorts of money (although it’s true sometimes, no lie). Many of these books you can download and borrow from the library. Save some dough, get the download.

Goodreads keeps all your highlights/notes, so even once the books are virtually returned, the kindle/goodreads bond isn’t broken. I use these notes to reference for book reviews, life advice later on, lovely quotes I liked, D&D building blocks. Seriously, you don’t have to own books. It’s all part of my downsizing movement [Part 1] [Part 2] #LetsGetThrifty #StickingToTheDownsize*

Physical Books
Realms of Magic by J Robert King (FR anthology #3)
The Best of the Realms: The Stories of R.A. Salvatore edited by RA Salvatore (FR anthology)
Realms of the Underdark by Dave Gross, et al. (FR anthology #4)
I bought physical copies of the anthologies because some are just so old that no one’s converted them to kindle editions and/or they are significantly cheaper to buy physically.

Faith and Pantheons by Erik Mona, et al. (3e Sourcebook)
I purchased this as a physical copy so I can write in it and use it for on-hand reference when campaign building (an absolute necessity with my current creative endeavor!).

Volo’s Guide to Monsters by Wizards RPG Team (5e Sourcebook)
Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes by Wizards RPG Team (5e Sourcebook)
There’s no excuse for these purchases other than I have a problem. I fixate on things as I’ve admitted before, and I’m chest deep in building my campaign. It’s getting me through quarantine and keeps me from spending frivolous monies. At least, this is what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.

Kindle Downloads
Tantras (FR, Avatar #2) by Scott Ciencin and Richard Awlinson
Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons and Dragons and the People Who Play It by David M Ewalt
Evermeet: Island of the Elves by Elaine Cunningham
Prophet of Moonshae (FR, Druidhome #1) by Douglass Niles
Elminster: The Making of a Mage (FR, Elminster #1) by Ed Greenwood
